TISSUE INHIBITOR OF
METALLOPROTEINASE
(TIMP)
GENE EXPRESSION

OVERVIEW EXPLANATION

TIMP proteins participate in regulating the activity of matrix metalloproteinase and this assay is able to determine the effectiveness of the regulatory process. Elevated quantities indicate that the patient has the potential to develop kidney problems. Decreased quantities are associated with the possibly that any Abnormal Cells will spread.

DETAILED EXPLANATION

TIMP genes encode proteins which take part in the regulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity. TIMP proteins are produced by many cells and tissues, particularly by activated neutrophils and fibroblasts. This assay is designed to evaluate the activity level of factors which are involved in the control of both the destruction of extra cellular matrix and the shedding of cell surface molecules.

High TIMP quantities are associated with an imminent risk of deposition of the extra cellular matrix which can lead to severe kidney malfunctioning. Any decrease in the interactions between cells will also have resulted from high TIMP quantities. Low quantities indicate an imminent risk of damage to the connective tissue, the blood / brain barrier and the spread of the Abnormal Cells.

APPLICATION

This assay will provide extremely valuable and accurate information relating to the following pathological conditions :-

- Cancer and neuro-degenerative diseases.
